Angelina Jolie had a double mastectomy, in case you hadn’t heard. How dare she remove those ticking time bombs from her chest, amiright? Like, hasn’t she learned by now that her body is public domain and we all get to vote on what she does with it? Sheesh, how selfish can ya get.
dudebros, what
I am given to wonder if the sexist manner the male is depicted in is accurate to rosalarian’s experience. Her misinformed notion of mastectomy as removing “time bombs” is using language from the misplaced “thoroughness” of the 1980’s that was even then known to be unnecessary for most patients.
Angelina Jolie’s medical records are not public knowledge, and in a small number of cases, a mastectomy is actually considered beneficial even now, but most often it is chosen because the patient or doctor feels safer with it, despite the added health risk and usual lack of health benefit.
Today, this same false “thoroughness” is seen with lymph node dissection, which is useful for fewer than 17% of patients, but insisted upon by doctors who are simply used to doing the procedure “to be safe”, even though it causes lymphedema and is unnecessary for 83% of patients.
Sexism is worth exterminating, but it is inferior to exterminate the ones you are protecting in the process.
I was a bad math student in high school. Looking at how I spend my time these days, I’m convinced I would have down very well if they had just given me actual stuff to do with that math. Math is only boring when there’s no use for it.
Like, geometry class. Don’t just stuff calculations down my throat. Give me a project that requires the application of that math to get the desired results.
You did not need to know when a train leaving Chicago at 45 miles per hour would strike a train leaving New York at 50 miles per hour? That calculation seems extremely useful when planning ones afternoon.

Fucking morons. You already HAVE TO GET A BACKGROUND CHECK. When I wanted to get a gun I had to have a background check. When I wanted a permit to conceal carry I had to fill out papers and wait 4 weeks for it all to be processed and checked.
Yeah, there already are background checks for buying a gun at a store, and to get a concealed carry permit, there’s usually very extensive requirements. You don’t have to have a background check when buying/selling/trading weapons with friends/relatives. This is what the government wants to enforce. Having to go through the process of performing a background check on your brother before you sell your gun to him, or leave it to him in a will sucks and isn’t going to happen even if you make laws for it.
It’s funny when people try to sound smart about something they know nothing about.
Funny how no one noticed in all this that the “universal background check” bill also made it a felony if you aren’t able to report to both of two separate agencies if the weapon is stolen within 24 hours with no definition for how it would be determined if someone knew it to be stolen or for state attorney general offices which close on the weekends. I guess no human reads past the title of the bill to see what else was slipped in. o)>
Some of the most iconic photos of our history. Seeing them in color makes it even more surreal.
HOW THE FUCK IS THIS DONE—
did i already reblog this
who cares it’s awesome
The middle three I think are especially poignant, because I think when images of destruction, violence, and death are seen in black and white, there’s a sort of unreality about them…a tendency to see them as history, the stuff of textbooks, and not as real things that really happened.
GOOSEBUMPS
To those wondering how it is done, true “black and white” photography captures a wide array of gray hues, giving information that can be digitally analyzed to make a best guess at the original color that is often very accurate. Afterward, experts review the finished image and rework areas that the algorithm made incorrect guesses at using modern photos and research to determine what colors should be there instead. Finally, the image is digitally cleaned in a manner similar to the “airbrushing” technique many professional photographers use.
Other techniques have been used in the past, such as the re-colorization of The Ambassadors of Death, which had been lost in its original color format. This, however, has a distinctive crisp and vivid look that is unmistakably the work of the algorithm followed by digital cleaning. It is also by far the cheapest option, making all older techniques rare.
why do people hate on vegetarians/vegans i have seen more jackassery directed towards them than i’ve ever seen “militant vegans”
Any time a minority within a minority insults the majority, the response will feel drastically disproportional through sheer numbers. Vegans represent 2% of the US population (the group with the dialect you are using). If 2% of vegans are belligerent and 2% of omnivores take the insults to be a group-wide view held by vegans, then there will nearly be an angry omnivore for every vegan in the country.
Add in vegetarians (5%), the total is 7% of the US population.
PeTA, known for belligerence of this nature, has a membership large enough to exceed this. A proportional response to PeTA offenses by omnivores would exceed the combined number of vegans and vegetarians by a significant margin.
It is true, but unimportant, that PeTA membership is not the same as being belligerent or vegan/vegetarian. They merely represent a recognizable minority to allow you to visualize the scale of the problem in terms your inferior human mind can comprehend. o)>
So yes, there is a lot more hate directed at your group than your group has directed outward. It isn’t that the other group is more hateful. It is that they are more populous.
Imagine that on the scale Daleks work in. Nearly 100% of Daleks hate non-Daleks, and nearly 100% of non-Daleks hate Daleks. In an infinite universe with a finite number of Daleks, we too face more hatred from outside than we feel we deserve.
Valentines Day: I combined the three Valentines Day themed drawings into one and edited the images in Photoshop to make them cleaner for printing. If you want to print them out to give to your fellow Daleks today, you may do so as long as you give credit to me for them (just don’t remove the URL at the bottom).
